Update from Board of Trustees Chair Rick J. Caruso (November 8, 2018)

November 8, 2018

Dear USC Community:

Since its formation in late August, the Presidential Search Advisory Committee has been engaging the USC community to hear your aspirations for our next president and to better understand the challenges and opportunities facing our University.

Over 2,000 students, faculty, staff, alumni, and local community leaders shared their perspectives at eleven in-person forums, via the presidential search website, and through emails and phone calls. What the committee heard and learned was informative, enlightening, and also deeply moving. We greatly appreciate the input of every person who participated in this critical phase of the search process.

This important first stage of the search process has shaped the development of the Candidate Profile, which has been posted on the presidential search website. The committee is now using the Candidate Profile to develop a strong, diverse pool of candidates who reflect the qualifications and character that our community expects. We will spend the rest of this calendar year conducting confidential outreach to prospective candidates, with a view to scheduling in-person interviews in early 2019. If you wish to nominate someone whom you believe matches the Candidate Profile, please email uscpresident@imsearch.com.

As I have stated before, our goal is to complete the search as soon as possible but the committee will take as much time as necessary to identify the very best leader for USC. In the meantime, I continue to be grateful to interim President Wanda Austin for her leadership and steady hand in running the University.

We will keep you informed of our progress. If you have any questions or suggestions for the committee, please send them to presidentialsearch@usc.edu.
