Thomas J. Barrack Jr. is the executive chairman of Colony NorthStar, Inc. He previously held the position of founder and executive chairman of Colony Capital, Inc., the predecessor to Colony NorthStar, Inc.
Colony NorthStar is a leading global real estate and investment management firm principally located in Los Angeles and New York, with more than 500 employees in offices across 18 cities in 10 countries. Prior to founding the Colony business, Barrack was a principal with the Robert M. Bass Group, the principal investment vehicle of Texas investor Robert M. Bass. He also served in the Reagan administration as deputy undersecretary of the Department of the Interior.
In 2010, French president Nicolas Sarkozy knighted Barrack as a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur, the highest award bestowed by the French government for citizens and foreigners. In 2017, Barrack served as the chairman of the 58th Presidential Inaugural Committee. He was also a senior advisor to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. He sits on several boards, including First Republic Bank.
Barrack received a bachelor’s degree from USC and attended law school at the USC Gould School of Law and the University of San Diego, where he earned his J.D. in 1972. He has served on the USC Board of Trustees since June 2012.
